22 October 2013, New York – Consul General Mario De Leon, Jr. (3rd from right), accompanied by Madame Eleanor De Leon (3rd from left), and Chief Operating Officer of ABS-ABN Global Mr Raffy Lopez (far right) receive the Proclamation for Filipino Community Day awarded to the Filipino American community by the Office of the Mayor of Newark Cory Booker (now Senator-elect of New Jersey). The Proclamation recognizes the Filipino-Americans' massive contributions to the United States' and Newark's growth in the arts, politics, and commerce. More than four thousand Filipinos from all over the US trooped to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey to watch talents from ABS CBN/The Filipino Channel at the One Kapamilya Go variety show which followed the presentation ceremony. The event is part of the celebrations of Filipino-American Heritage month commemorated in the United States in October.

18 October 2013, New York -- Guests at the Salu Salo Filipino Culinary Competition had a taste of Filipino food ingenuity as chefs from Maharlika Restaurant, Masarap Dinner Club and Lumpia Shack battled it out in the kitchen last 13 October 2013 at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in Manhattan. Niel Syham of Lumpia Shack (center) bagged the grand prize, awarded by Consul General Mario L. De Leon, Jr. (right). Neil will fly to San Francisco courtesy of Department of Tourism, to represent New York in the 4th Annual Kulinarya Cooking Showdown in November.

In celebration of the Filipino American History Month this October, the New Jersey City University (NJCU) and the Philippine Consulate General in New York are partnering to present a free screening of the classic Philippine movie 'Himala' (Miracle) on October 28, 2013, Monday, from 7 pm to 9 pm, at the Michael Gilligan Student Union Building, Multi-Purpose Room, with entrance at Culver St., Jersey City. The screening for the film, with English subtitles, is open to the public; doors open at 6:30 pm.

Mr. Kevin Lau, a motivational speaker from New Jersey, called on Consul General Mario L. De Leon, Jr. on 9 October 2013 to inform him of his plan to visit the Philippines for a 10-day tour in February 2014, where he will address various church, school, community and business groups with special emphasis on the disabled and youth in the Metro Manila area.
